Vegetable Box Competition

Open to primary schools across Yorkshire and the Humber.

The National Farmers Union and the Yorkshire Agricultural society combine to encourage schools to grow a box of vegetables for the Great Yorkshire Show, with the aim of encouraging children to enjoy eating vegetables they have grown.

For schools who already have a box there is an entry fee of £15 (but please ensure that the box and pallet are in good repair before planting).  New schools are charged £30 and receive a box, pallet and compost. This is delivered in February.

For 2017 the competition was judged in three parts:

  • Part 1 - Diary of the work completed by the children
  • Part 2 - Planting the veg box for the show
  • Part 3 - Planting a herb box for the show
