Planning Ahead - The Challenges and Opportunities

The intricacies and complexities of succession planning will be at the fore for the Future Farmers of Yorkshire group at their next meeting.

Held at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, the panel of experts will cover the financial, legal and business planning elements at the event on Wednesday 5 December.

Steve Willis, Chair of the Yorkshire Food, Farming and Rural Network said: “Succession planning is widely acknowledged as a complicated and potentially costly farming problem and as a consequence, many businesses tend to avoid thinking about it, let alone discussing it! This event brings together four first class speakers which will hopefully encourage attendees to think about the next steps in their own businesses.”

Speakers are: Anne Elliott, of Latimer Hinks Solicitors, Stephen Watson, Moore Stephens Chartered Accountants, Paul Ainscough of the land agents Savills, and Phil Dibbs, business consultant of Hawkmoor Associates.

“Major tasks such as drawing up a will or getting the best out of your bank are hugely important but incredibly challenging,” said Mr Willis. “Our speakers will be discussing these and much more, making it a 'not to miss' event.”

Future Farmers of Yorkshire was launched in November 2010 and is based at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. It brings together younger farmers, vets and industry supporters. The social, but informative, group offers the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences, develop networks, organise events with key speakers and a social get together.

The event, which is free, begins at 7.15pm with a light supper. For more information on the evening, contact Elizabeth Hudson, Project Manager at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society on 07702 598108 or [email protected].
