Great Yorkshire Cookery Competition
The Great Yorkshire Cookery Competition 2008 is now is its 5th year and is open
to both Professional, Amateur and Junior Chefs across Yorkshire & Humberside.
So, if you have a passion for local food and want to prove your skill in the
kitchen, then here's your chance!
The competition is an important date on the Agricultural Society's calendar and
is covered by the media - as well as featuring in Yorkshire Life Magazine.
Details for each category are as follows:
Professional Chefs
Do you think your signature dish is worth of a place in the final? If it's locally
sourced, innovative and nutritious, send us your recipe.
Prize
You'll be up against other professional chefs from across Yorkshire for the chance
to win a plaque for your establishment, certificate and £100 cash.
Amateur Chefs
This is your chance to prove that you don't have to be a professional chef to
cook professional dishes. If your food gets the seal of approval from your friends
and family, and you're over 18 you could be the next Great Yorkshire Amateur Chef.
Prize
Set of professional knives and time in the kitchen with a professional chef at
Brasserie Blanc, Leeds
Junior Chefs
If you'd rather whip up a tasty treat for your own than go for fast food, you
could be the next Great Yorkshire Junior Chef. We're looking for bright young
things to compete for the title by producing yummy Yorkshire Food that has the
wow factor.
If you're 18 or under and think your cooking makes a statement, send us your
recipe.
Prize
Cookery course to the value of £95 with Bettys Cookery School, Harrogate and £100 cash.
All recipes, from all categories, will be reviewed by our panel of judges, and
entrants will be whittled down to four finalists. Professional and Amateur shortlisted
entrants will cook-off at Fourth Floor Restaurant, Harvey Nichols, Leeds and Junior Chefs will cook-off at Bettys Cookery School, Harrogate.
How to enter

Step 1 |
Choose a starter, main course or dessert you’d like to make, using as much local
produce as possible and costing under £10. |

Step 2 |
Complete an entry form or email your details to gycc@yas.co.uk. Entry is free to everyone (download an entry form below). |

Step 3 |
Enclose your recipe, including an ingredient list and method. |
|
Step 4 |
If you’d like to tell us more about your recipe, include a written submission
too (This is entirely optional). |

Step 5 |
You can post your entry to us at the address on the entry form or email it to
us at gycc@yas.co.uk. All entries must reach us by 1st December 2008. |

The Professional and Amateur winners beat off stiff competition from the eight other finalists who took part in the cook off at Harvey Nichols Fourth Floor Restaurant in Leeds.
Tim won his section with a recipe for Lamb Rack with a Herb and Parmesan crust,
served with Sticky Carrots, New Potato and Green Bean Salar and Savoy Cabbage
sauteed in olive oil and wholegrain mustart, with a caramelised balsamic vinegar
dressing, whilst David's Steamed Wild Sea Trout on Crunchy Vegetable, Roasted
Cherry Tomatoes and Garnished with a Warm Viniagrette, topped with a Crispy Potato
Garnish brought him the Professional Chef title.
Helen Rosillo beat off stiff competition from four other finalists who took part
in the cook off at Betty's Cookery School in Harrogate. She won with her recipe
for Warm Goats Cheese and Red Onion Tartlet with a Sweet Pepper and Tomato Chutney.
