Helping Hands - hedge planting at the Great Yorkshire Showground

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society today (28th February 2008) showed 70 children how to plant a traditional hedge, at the Great Yorkshire Showground.

The Year 4 pupils from Woodland Junior School, Harrogate, helped to plant 200 small trees to create a 40 metre hedge. The children were assisted by gardeners from Thorpe Park, who have supplied the trees, Askham Bryan College and the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.

The school chose to bring younger children to the event so that they would be able to see the hedge grow when they take part in other Outdoor Classroom events held at the Showground.

By involving the community in the project, this also supports the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s bid to win Yorkshire in Bloom.
