About the YAS

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society, a registered charity, was founded in 1837 to help improve and promote agriculture in the region.

It is best known for organising the Great Yorkshire Show (Tuesday 8 - Thursday 10 July 2008), but this is only part of its work. It also arranges a programme of events and supports individuals and organisations involved in agriculture through research.

Education plays an important role in the work of the Society. Our annual Countryside Days have continued to develop with 5,000 children from all over Yorkshire attending over the two days.

Our Autumn event continues to go from strength to strength, Countryside Live (Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 October 2008) providing a platform for the British farming industry.

The Society also runs Growing Routes, a programme to help people under 45, living in rural parts of Yorkshire and the Humber to start new businesses.
