Comprising a fantastic Food Hall, comprehensive butchery, delicious deli, busy café and a popular takeaway ‘Fodder on the Hoof’ too, Fodder now supports over 430 local producers.
The idea of Fodder started in 2001 when British agriculture was hit hard by Foot and Mouth and the Society wanted to come up with a long-term sustainable plan which would help farmers in Yorkshire. Plans were put in place for a retail outlet which would open seven days a week to sell and serve top quality Yorkshire produce, with a warm Yorkshire welcome.
Managing Director, Heather Parry visited hundreds of local suppliers, to check the quality of products (as we only sell the best) and the animal welfare/quality standards. For some, Fodder is their largest single retail customer and therefore our business is critical to their long term sustainability; a responsibility that we take very seriously. Fodder works hard to encourage consumers to choose to buy and enjoy the many benefits of local food. Any food good enough to eat but not sell is donated every week to the Harrogate Homeless Project – a charity we are proud to support.
