Mental health awareness course – 27th February 2025

A free farming-focused mental health awareness course is being offered by the Yorkshire Rural Support Network at Wharfedale Farmers Auction Mart on Thursday 27th February 2025.

Delivered by RABI (the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution), this half-day course will teach the basic tools to recognise signs of those experiencing poor mental health, whilst also recognising the importance of self-care to potentially improve mental health for you and others.

Farmers’ feedback from the last time we ran this course with RABI, at Holmfirth Mart in December 2024

The course was a fantastic opportunity to get together and have an open conversation, there was a few of us that had been in difficult circumstances and this training provided an opportunity to share challenges in a safe space.

The course had a relaxed layout and feel to it. The delivery of the training was very well lead with plenty of information, provided in a concise manner.

The biggest thing I personally took away from it was the awareness I feel I now have around different topics such as depression, anxiety, how to approach others, the questions to ask and how to prompt someone to talk, and how to identify if someone might not be okay.

What to expect on 27th February

The course will commence at 10am and finish at 2pm and will cover the following topics:

  • Understanding mental health and its importance
  • Recognising key signs and symptoms
  • Looking after your own wellbeing

Lunch is included during the break.

The course is provided thanks to funding secured by the Yorkshire Rural Support Network at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and partners in the North of England from the DEFRA Farmer Welfare Fund and is part of an ongoing program of events dedicated to supporting farmer welfare – read more here.
