We offer a range of free courses for staff from Nurseries, Primary and Secondary Schools. Each course will specify the Key Stage level that is it aimed towards.

The majority of courses are held at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate with occasional courses held at other venues around Yorkshire.

All courses are organised and funded by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. They are FREE for participants, however, cancellations within 5 working days of the course start date will be charged £25 + VAT.

Thursday 22 February - Starting a school vegetable garden - All ages

Come and learn how you can create a productive vegetable garden at your school.

With tips for success from our experts at RHS Garden Harlow Carr. They’ll take you through growing from seed, caring for seedlings and planting out, to guiding you on how to plan vegetables to grow for a good harvest throughout the spring and summer.

This course takes place outdoors for the majority of the day, please dress in outdoor clothing and bring warm layers, waterproofs and both indoor and outdoor footwear.

Friday 23 February - Supporting Autism and Neurodiversity Outside - KS1 to KS4

This course will explore autism friendly pedagogy and showcase a number of effective strategies, such as sensory circuits in nature, attention autism and sensory stories.

Sessions will provide participants with opportunities to experience these activities first hand and have chance to devise their own to take away.

This course takes place outdoors for the majority of the day, please dress in outdoor clothing and bring warm layers, waterproofs and both indoor and outdoor footwear.

Wednesday 20 March - Creature Comforts: Habitats EYFS - KS2

Children need nature and nature needs children. Discover some simple ways to optimise the habitats available to you, however limited.

We’ll look for mini beasts, survey the field and try pond dipping and consider how we do this with different year groups or abilities.

Explore simple activities to attract nature and create habitats. Start planning what changes you might make and we’ll discuss available resources.

Thursday 21 March - Awesome Outdoor Art EYFS - KS2

Explore natural materials to create art on the outdoor canvas. By the end of the course you will have:

  • Discovered techniques in using sticks, leaves, wood and simple tools.
  • Made awesome art pieces including hanging sculptures, collages and stick people.
  • Discussed how these ideas may be applied, explore links to the National Curriculum, topics and books and stories.

Friday 19 April - Outdoor Learning for STEM and Sustainability - KS1 and KS2

Join us for a day of learning at White Quarry Farm. Hosted by LEAF Education, this event is for primary science teachers who are interested in weaving food, farming, and sustainability through their curriculum.

Participate in practical activities that will give you lots of ideas to use at school. Explore the breadth of curriculum and learning opportunities that can be found in the outdoor and farmed environment.

Activities have been designed to enrich the learning experience of students and provide them with a unique perspective on STEM, sustainability, and food.

This course takes place outdoors for the majority of the day, please dress in outdoor clothing and bring warm layers, waterproofs and both indoor and outdoor footwear.
