Tues 10th March - Mindfulness for Teacher's own Wellbeing* - EYFS, KS1, KS2 & above

Mindfulness is the quality of being present and fully engaged with whatever we’re doing at that moment — free from distraction or judgement, and aware of our thoughts and feelings without getting caught up in them.

That might seem easy, except for the annoying fact that we so often veer from the matter at hand. Our mind takes flight, we lose touch with our body, and pretty soon we’re engrossed in obsessive thoughts about something that just happened or fretting about the future.

Over time, mindfulness brings about long-term changes in mood, levels of happiness and well-being.

People that incorporate it into their lives also report higher levels of patience and compassion as well as lower levels of stress, frustration and sadness.

The stress of an unpleasant environment can cause you to feel anxious, sad, or helpless. This in turn elevates your blood pressure, heart rate, and muscle tension and suppresses your immune system. A natural environment reverses all of that.

Time in nature or viewing nature scenes increases our ability to pay attention – our ability to be more mindful.

This course takes place outdoors for the majority of the day, please dress in outdoor clothing and bring warm layers, waterproofs and both indoor and outdoor footwear.

Course on Tour - South Yorkshire - Mon 16th March - Using Outdoor Learning to support Intent, Implementation & Impact (OFSTED 2019) - KS1, KS2

Please note: This course takes place in South Yorkshire at New Hall Farm, Ardsley, Barnsley, S71 5E

OFSTED’s new framework comes into play from September 2019. With this shift towards the curriculum, this course looks at how outdoor learning can broaden and deepen your school’s curriculum. Whatever your intent, outdoor learning can support you to enrich the skills, learning and experience of all children throughout their school life and beyond.

During the day, we will look at the benefits of outdoor learning and how it supports OFSTEDs new framework, giving participants the skills to take all aspects of the curriculum outdoors and helping them disseminate this information for a whole school approach.

We will look at methods of taking the curriculum outside, illustrating along the way, how it helps disadvantaged learners, broadens vocabulary and offers contextualised learning. Participants will recognise many of the methods used, but will experience how this learning can be transferred to a different setting to help embed learning and offer a range of memorable experiences that support the national curriculum.

Participants are invited to bring some topic planning, including learning outcomes, with them for part of this workshop.

This course takes place outdoors for the majority of the day, please dress in outdoor clothing and bring warm layers, waterproofs and both indoor and outdoor footwear.
