We offer free one day courses for Primary School staff associated with outdoor learning, growing and mental health. The majority of courses are held at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate with occasional courses held at other venues around Yorkshire.

A Different Perspective - Friday 17th May 2019

Suitable for EYFS & KS1

Discover ideas for nature discovery activities using all the senses. Listening games, mirror walk and smell trail will lead to creative outdoor language and literacy ideas.

Outside Makes us Happy Inside - Tuesday 21st May 2019

Suitable for KS2 & above

Looking at the use of the outdoors as a therapeutic environment.  Exploring the benefit of natural places as reflective, safe spaces with reference to current research and practice. Including the Five Ways to Wellbeing and Pathways to Nature Connection. Trialling a range of tools and activities to use when working with children to address stress, anxiety management, recognising emotions and holistic wellbeing in the outdoors.  Reflecting on the broader wellbeing benefits of embedding outdoor learning across the curriculum.

Muddy Maths - Wednesday 22nd May 2019

Suitable for EYFS & KS1

Investigate different uses for natural materials and ways to use simple equipment in delivering maths games and activities in the outdoor world.  Come along and get ideas for using back at school in wooded areas, on the playing fields and the playground itself.

Natural Colour - Monday 3rd June 2019

Suitable for KS1 & KS2

Learn some simple techniques to explore the art and science of colour in nature including the Japanese art of hapa zome. Make dyes from natural and household materials and transfer colour from nature to make banners and flags.

Spectacular (& sometimes silly) Science! - Tuesday 4th June 2019

Suitable for KS1 & KS2

Using games, practical activities and experiments. Explore various aspects of the science curriculum, including plants, animals, materials, forces and light. Enhance science learning through the introduction and development of large-scale, outdoor activities, with lots of fun!

Campfires & Outdoor Cooking - Wednesday 5th June 2019 - CANCELLED

Unfortunately this course has been cancelled due to low numbers. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Suitable for KS1 & KS2

Experience a range of activities to enable safe campfires to be created and used for cooking. Skills include setting up a campfire area, lighting the fire and maintaining it for cooking purposes. Cook several simple dishes that can be used with groups of children such as making a bun in an orange skin!

SEN & Outdoor Education - Thursday 13th June 2019

Suitable for EYFS, KS1 & KS2

The outdoors can act as an exciting backdrop for supporting social interaction, motivating learning and building confidence among young people. This day-course will provide ideas and techniques for engaging SEN pupils in outdoor learning environments. Through directly taking part in activities and getting you thinking about how to develop your own.

Building Confidence to take the Curriculum Outdoors - Monday 17th June 2019

Suitable for EYFS, KS1 & KS2

Learn how simple it can be to take everyday classroom learning outside through a range of engaging and interactive activities. Boost your confidence, remove perceived barriers and enjoy being outdoors as much as the children! All aspects of the curriculum will be discussed with a focus on cross curricular learning and topic work.

Mindfulness in Nature - Wednesday 19th June 2019

Suitable for EYFS, KS1 & KS2

Learn how to use our natural world as a tool for teaching mindfulness. Find out how to use the outdoors and what nature provides us with in all seasons and in all weathers to enable children to be happy, calm and confident inside and out.
