Monday 8 June, 10am-3pm

Places £12

All in farming are welcome on this visit to one of the UK’s leading demonstration farms, the GWCT Allerton Project, with multiple coach pick ups throughout Yorkshire to make joining the trip easier.

Our trip to Leicestershire promises to be full of practical, research‑led insights into sustainable and profitable farming, which in turn will give you ideas to inform your own farm business decisions.

The visit, which is organised by the Farmer Scientist Network at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and kindly funded by Anglo American, is perfect for anyone interested in learning more about sustainable farming practices and seeing first-hand the latest in cutting-edge research.

Introducing The Allerton Project

Based on a 320‑hectare commercial mixed farm in Leicestershire, the Allerton Project showcases how productive agriculture can work hand‑in‑hand with environmental improvement.

The farm has been at the cutting edge of farming and land management research for more than 30 years, with findings that now underpin many modern agri‑environment and stewardship schemes.

The Allerton Project is widely recognised as a blueprint for future rural landscapes, with its research influencing policy, stewardship design and practical farming decisions across the UK.

Here’s what to expect during the day

A guided farm walk and presentations sharing practical outcomes from long‑term research trials carried out on the farm.

Insights into regenerative and integrated farming systems, including reduced tillage, extended rotations, soil cover and cultivation approaches aimed at long‑term resilience and profitability.

Discussion on soil health, water quality and biodiversity, including field‑scale work on habitat creation, integrated pest management, woodland and agroforestry.

Examples of how environmental land management can be applied on a working farm, balancing commercial output with wildlife, carbon and natural capital outcomes.

Plenty of opportunities to ask questions and share experiences with other farmers, advisors and industry professionals throughout the day.
