This year we changed up the format of our Farmhouse Breakfast event and we took classes from 3 different schools to visit farms where they saw first-hand where their food comes from.
North Frodingham Primary School & Beeford CE VC Primary School visited Side Oven Bakery at Carr House Farm near Driffield. Both groups did a farm walk to see how wheat is grown in the fields followed by visiting the mill house to have a go at milling grain to produce flour. After getting kitted out in aprons (and very fashionable hair nets) they headed to the bakery to make a delicious croissant. Everyone gathered together in the straw barn to enjoy their breakfast with freshly pressed apple juice.
Our second Farmhouse Breakfast of the week saw Kettlesing Felliscliffe Community Primary School visit Birchfield Icecream Farm near Summerbridge, Harrogate. They learnt all about how bacon, sausages, eggs and milk get from the Farm to their Fork, before enjoying a hearty, locally produced breakfast. The highlight of their day was brushing the Gloucester Old Spot Pigs!
We will be inviting more schools to our Farmhouse Breakfast events across Yorkshire in 2020.
