Join the Farmer-Scientist Network for a Summer Farm Walk exploring Herbal Leys, OSR Grazing & Sustainable Food Production.
We’re delighted to be hosted by Peter and Alastair Trickett for a guided farm walk near the Harewood Estate, Leeds. A huge thank you to them for opening their gates and sharing their experience.
The session will focus on practical insights and shared learning around sustainable and integrated farming systems:
Herbal Leys in Practice: A look at the beef rotational grazing system alongside the agronomic differences of grazing vs. cutting, the importance of pasture density and how to manage herbal leys within arable rotations.
Grazing Oilseed Rape (OSR): Exploring the challenges and benefits—from labour demands to the potential rewards – ‘free’ food for sheep. We’ll discuss, pest reduction, and the effects of grazing animal performance, on crop structure and yield.
The ‘Why’ Behind It All – Food Provenance & Sustainability: A broader conversation on making changes to farm systems, and the supporting role of public vs supply chain finance on farms making a change.
