Join the Smart Store Farmer Trial and Help Shape the Future of Chemical Store Management

Take part in a pioneering farmer-led trial exploring a new way to manage plant protection products on farm.

Farmers are being invited to attend one of two free webinars this November to learn more about the Smart Store Project, an innovative initiative designed to help simplify chemical store management through the use of the Agrillo app.

The webinars will take place on:

  • Monday 2 November 2026, 12:00pm to 12:45pm
  • Monday 2 November 2026, 7:00pm to 7:45pm

The sessions will introduce the project, demonstrate how the app works and explain how farmers can become part of a funded on-farm trial.

What are the benefits for farmers?

Managing plant protection products remains a critical but often time-consuming part of farm administration. The Smart Store project is exploring how digital tools can help farmers reduce paperwork, improve compliance and gain greater visibility of the products stored on farm.

Farmers who join the project will have the opportunity to:

  • Digitise chemical store records using their smartphone
  • Monitor pesticide inventories quickly and accurately
  • Receive notifications about product expiry and withdrawal dates
  • Share store information easily with agronomists, spray operators and assurance schemes
  • Reduce the time spent carrying out chemical store audits
  • Help shape the future development of practical digital tools for agriculture

About the Smart Store Project

The Smart Store project aims to support the adoption of digital technology on farm by trialling the use of the Agrillo app for managing plant protection product inventories and authorisations.

The project will work with farmers to understand how digital chemical store management fits into day-to-day farming operations, identify barriers to adoption and quantify potential time savings. Early experience indicates that digital record keeping can significantly reduce the time required to audit and manage farm chemical stores.

Participating farmers will receive guidance on setting up the app, recording product information and sharing inventory records with relevant advisers and assurance providers.

Hear Directly from the Project Team

The webinars will be hosted by Sam Hoste, Managing Director of Agrillo and project lead, who will demonstrate how the app works and explain how farmers can get involved in the trial, alongside representatives from Arable Alliance and ProCam.

Sam Hoste, Managing Director of Agrillo: “Agrillo gives agronomists and farmers a simple, mobile way to manage products in farm chemical stores, cut audit time by 75%, stay compliant with withdrawal dates, and share accurate records with ease”

The project is being supported through Yorkshire’s farming innovation community, through the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s, Farmer Scientist Network, and forms part of ongoing work to connect farmers with practical solutions that improve productivity and efficiency.

Dr Dave George, Chair, Farmer Scientist Network, “The term ‘digital agriculture’ often brings to mind colourful variable rate field maps and the buzz of a drone fitted with the latest crop imaging technology. Gains from ‘going digital’ can apply to many other areas of the farm, however, including the chemical store. Agrillo’s digital solution and accompanying app do exactly this, tracking and tracing plant protection products and making this vital farm management data easy to access and share. It will no doubt appeal to anyone familiar with the paperwork and time needed to manage on-farm chemical stocks!”

Meet us at the Future Farmers of Yorkshire Autumn Debate

Farmers interested in learning more before registering for the webinar can meet Sam Hoste in person at the Future Farmers of Yorkshire Autumn Debate, taking place at the Great Yorkshire Showground on Monday 23 November 2026.

Sam will be exhibiting at the event and will be available to discuss the project, demonstrate the Agrillo app and answer questions about participation in the trial.

Project Partners and Funding

The Smart Store project is being delivered through collaboration between:

  • Agrillo
  • Agrivation
  • Arable Alliance
  • Farmer Scientist Network, an initiative of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society
  • JE Maughan & Sons
  • ProCam

Places at both webinars are free, but advance registration is required.

Whether you’re looking to reduce time spent on compliance, improve visibility of chemical stocks, or help shape the next generation of farm management tools, this is an opportunity to be part of a farmer-led innovation project and make improvements in chemical store management.

The project is supported through the ADOPT programme, helping farmers explore and adopt practical innovations that improve business performance and sustainability. You can find out more about funding opportunities for farmers here.

Farmers can claim 1 x BASIS points for attending one of the webinars.
