Farmer Healthcheck Nurses Win Regional Award

On March 21st, 2019 the second Annual General Practice Nursing (Yorkshire and Humber) Awards were held in Leeds. The 21 Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) from across Yorkshire and Humber had nominated their winners from local practices.

Anne Reed and Tricia Fryer, nurses from The Doctors Surgery in Thirsk were nominated by Hambleton, Richmond and Whitby CCG and Kate Dale (YRSN) for the Integrated working award.

NHS England were looking for nominees who engaged with their local community to address health needs. Particularly with those who struggled to access care for different reasons. Anne and Trisha engage with members of their community by venturing out of the normal General Practice environment. To carry out health checks, including blood pressure checks and cholesterol measurements. It is also an opportunity to chat about many other health issues including smoking, drinking, diet and mental health.

Anne and Trisha are focused, caring and passionate about working to support the farming community. Taking part in a film promoting practice nursing it was fantastic for the NHS England team to be able to visit the Thirsk Farmers Market and see them in action.

Anne and Tricia went on to win the overall award for Integrated Working. The award was presented by Susan Aitkenhead, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer Policy and System Transformation at NHS England.
