Serving up a real treat!

The Butcher The Baker and The Ice Cream Maker

The popular Women in Farming evening was a great success in late May at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s Farm Shop and café Fodder.

The evening reception started with a delicious and refreshing glass of elderflower fizz. The attending women used the opportunity to chat with friends, make new acquaintances and acquire new business contacts.

The Butcher

Anna Longthorp began the evening’s presentations discussing her journey with supplying the supermarket giants, to taking control of her own destiny and creating the ‘Anna’s Happy Trotters‘ brand. She explained how she released her ties to the supermarket and built up her own local clientele. Anna goes the extra mile to build relationships and look after them. It’s clear Anna never has a dull day! Expressing her wishes to keep moving forward and pushing the importance of local, high welfare food.

The Baker

Following a scrumptious course of quiche and salad from the Fodder team, Charlotte Shaw from ‘Lottie Shaws’ took to the floor.

Founded by Charlotte’s Great, Great Aunts in 1912. The family bakery has grown from strength to strength and has remained very much in the family. With a vast experience in marketing products for the food and drink sector. Lottie strived to reinvent the branding and products appealing to the demand of the market. Offering a stand-out personalisation service is just one of the many ways she has achieved this.

The Ice Cream Maker

As a result of her yearning heart, Jenny Clarkson returned home to the family’s mixed farm. This followed an established career away from the farm. Jenny soon realised that diversification was key to sustain the family business. Following the outbreak of foot and mouth, Jenny’s family took the decision to concentrate on Dairy and ‘Just Jenny’s‘ was born. Jenny received a grant from The Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s Grass Root’s program and built a bespoke portacabin to make her ice cream. The business has since grown and the Clarkson’s were even honored to host HRH Princess Anne for afternoon tea!

The evening rounded off with an interesting and informative Q&A session with our three presenters, followed by a little spending spree in Fodder!
