Yorkshire farmers speak with Michael Gove

The YFFRN, in partnership with Centre for Crop Health and Protection (CHAP) based at FERA Science Ltd, York. We’re pleased to host a farmer meeting with the Rt Honourable Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Defra, last Friday. To give Yorkshire farmers the opportunity to speak with Michael Gove. The event was chaired by Mr. Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton.

More than 30 farmers drawn from across Yorkshire had the chance to quiz Mr. Gove on future farming policies post BREXIT.  Questions were wide ranging from the development of Environmental Land Management systems, the phasing out of Basic Payments, to migrant worker issues.   Mr. Gove gave very positive responses and was certainly fully briefed on all aspects of Defra policy.

YFFRN would like to thank all the farmers who took part, to the NFU and CLA and the Future Farmers of Yorkshire for putting forward candidates at very short notice, and to Charlotte Milligan in Kevin Hollinrake’s office.
