The Farmer Scientist Network (FSN) Student Poster Competition is now open for entries, offering a unique platform for students across the North of England to showcase their ideas to industry leaders, academics, and the public.

Why Enter?

The FSN Student Poster Competition is all about celebrating creativity, research, and innovation in farming.

By participating, you can:

  • Think critically and creatively about key challenges in farm innovation and sustainability.
  • Showcase your ideas to agricultural experts, universities, and fellow students.
  • Gain recognition at the prestigious Yorkshire Farming Conference on 28 January 2026.
  • Win amazing prizes, including tickets to the Great Yorkshire Show in July 2026.

Who Can Enter?

The competition is open to all undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students currently enrolled at colleges or universities in the North of England, including: Cheshire, Cumbria, County Durham, East Riding of Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Northumberland, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, West Yorkshire, and North & North East Lincolnshire.

  • Individual entries only – one poster per student.
  • Posters must be your own original work.
  • Digital submissions only (A3 High-Resolution JPEG).

What We’re Looking For

Your poster should explore one of these themes:

  • Farm Innovation – new technologies, practices, or ideas that improve efficiency and productivity
  • Sustainability – solutions that support environmentally friendly and sustainable farming

Make it visually engaging, clear, and easy for a general audience to understand. Don’t forget to include:

  • A title
  • Your name, college/university, and year group
  • A 150-word summary explaining your idea, its relevance, and potential real-world application

What We’re Looking For

Digital Format: A3 High-Resolution JPEG
Deadline: Thursday 8 January 2026 (late entries will not be accepted)

Judging process

The judging process has two stages.

Stage 1 – Initial Review

  • Submissions are scored on creativity, clarity, relevance, and visual impact
  • The top 8 posters become finalists and will be printed for free by FSN

Stage 2 – Final Judging (28 January 2026 at the Yorkshire Farming Conference)

  • Finalist posters will be displayed at the conference
  • Winners will be chosen by judges and attendees, with a possible People’s Choice Award

Prizes

Winner: 2x tickets to the Great Yorkshire Show and a Certificate

Runner-up: Certificate of Achievement

Third Place: Certificate of Achievement

All Finalists: Posters displayed at the Yorkshire Farming Conference and the Great Yorkshire Show, plus Finalist Certificates

Finalists will receive 1x complimentary ticket to the conference. If you can’t attend, we’ll keep you updated via email.

The aim of the Farmer Scientist Network at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society is to work with the crop and livestock sectors to find new ways in which science and technology can find solutions and underpin innovation in agriculture.
