The second round of the Future Farmers of Yorkshire Mentorship Scheme is now underway!
Backed by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, the programme has been designed through industry collaboration and is aimed at Future Farmers of every age and business status.
Eight Future Farmers who successfully applied for the latest round of the programme met with their mentors at the Great Yorkshire Showground on Monday 10th March.
It marked the start of a 12-month journey, with the Future Farmers Management Board having played ‘matchmaker’ to ensure that each of the mentees has the support of an appropriate mentor with relevant experience to guide them, depending on their particular needs.
Each mentee joins the programme with different ambitions and at different stages of their careers across agriculture’s varied sectors.
Their mentor’s role is to…
- Support them to evaluate their business aspirations
- Help build their knowledge and open up new perspectives
- Provide focus, a listening ear and help with setting goals
- Offer contacts and access to new networks
- Empower them in their decision making
Nick Grayson, South Yorkshire farmer and Chair of Future Farmers of Yorkshire, joined the initiation reception at the Showground and said he was thrilled to see the Mentorship Scheme resume.
It was great to launch the second round of the Future Farmers Mentorship Scheme this week. Knowing personally the benefits of mentorship, this scheme was always something I wanted Future Farmers to deliver.
It encompasses exactly what Future Farmers is all about, helping people from all different sectors of the industry, and all at different stages of their journey within the industry, but all with the same passion to succeed.
We have a fantastic team of mentors who have very generously agreed to give their time, over the next 12 months, to supporting the professional development of our next group of mentees.
Their input is invaluable and we are very grateful that they are sharing the benefits of their own experiences to guide our mentees through the next stage of their agricultural careers.
I’m looking forward to hearing how they all get on.
Future Farmers of Yorkshire is grateful to all of our 2025 mentors. Thank you to: Richard Bramley, Fiona Macdonald, Neil Heseltine, Matthew Watson, James Mills and Jen Barker.
