Fun for all at the Great Yorkshire Show in the family area, comprising of the Discovery Zone, Gen Z, and the outdoor sports area.
Discovery Zone
Come along and get hands-on with new ways to learn about the countryside at the Great Yorkshire Show family area 2019. Meet some newly hatched chicks, find out how bees make honey or turn your hand to making bread.
All the activities in The Discovery Zone are free and funded by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society as a way of introducing younger visitors to food, farming and the countryside.
New for this year is a special experience called Goat World.
Visitors can meet real milking goats, learn how to milk on a special dummy goat and even make goat’s cheese.
Education is an important part of the Great Yorkshire Show and a vital element of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s work. The Discovery Zone is just one of the ways it brings new discoveries to the next generation.
Gen Z
TV’s Red Shepherdess Hannah Jackson will take centre stage in the Discovery Zone and in Gen Z, which aims to promote agriculture to teens at the Great Yorkshire Show family area 2019.
The 26-year-old who starred in Channel 4’s reality show SAS: Who Dares Wins, will officially open the new area Gen Z.
Show Director Charles Mills said: “We are thrilled to have Hannah at the Show. She will be the perfect ambassador for speaking to the thousands of school pupils we have coming to the Show. Including a school from as far afield as London. About her life as a young shepherdess and about considering agriculture as a career.”
Known as the Red Shepherdess thanks to her flame-red hair. Hannah moved to the Cumbrian hills five years ago after swapping city life. For the peace and quiet of the rural countryside.
After graduating with a BSc in Animal Behaviour at 20, she took a life changing decision to head from Wirral, up to Cumbria to pursue her dreams to have a career working with animals.
There are loads for families to discover in The Discovery Zone at the Great Yorkshire Show.
