The Future Farmers of Yorkshire group recently arranged negotiation skills training in East Yorkshire, with support from our friends at Bishop Burton College.
Our Future Farmers enjoyed a day of practicing the core skills of negotiation, using the tools to be in a stronger position the next time they enter into a negotiation.
Kate Moore, a pork producer from Pockthorpe found the day incredibly helpful.
She said: “These are skills you don’t learn in college or university but effective negotiation is a really profitable skill to master.”
“In some form or fashion we negotiate everyday of our lives, whether trying to persuade a family member to accept your point of view or buying a new piece of farm machinery.”
Freddie Watson, of The Organic Pantry, felt that the training had helped in his own business.
“The training has definitely put me in a stronger position when negotiating with buyers, it’s also fascinating to spot which buyers have had this training too,” he said.
Future Farmers offers a range of training opportunities including media skills, accounts and business planning. Do get in touch of you’d like to find out more futurefarmers@yas.co.uk
