Members of our Future Farmers of Yorkshire network are invited to a farm walk at an award-winning farm in North Yorkshire, held in conjunction with the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.
The Tye Trophy Farm Walk will be held at Kexwith Farm, Marske, Richmond, North Yorkshire DL11 7EG on Thursday 5th June 2025, starting at 6pm.
Sue and Ray Ridley and their son, Richard are very kindly hosting the walk on their farm, followed by refreshments.
About the hosts
Kexwith was named the 2024 North Yorkshire area winner of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s Tye Trophy at last year’s Great Yorkshire Show.
It is a 150-acre upland farm focusing on farming stock, hand in hand with nature.
The Ridleys run a flock of pure Swaledale sheep on 1,500 acre of heather moorland and are developing a herd of Native at Risk British White Park Cattle.
Ray and Sue Ridley – pictured above at the Tye Trophy awards presentation with then YAS President Martin Cockerill – farm in partnership with their son Richard.
They are in a whole farm Higher Tier scheme in which they and are going above and beyond the schemes prescriptions. This has included plumbing Wader scrapes into their natural spring Ram pump which supplies the farms water requirements.
The Species Rich Hay meadows are home to a variety of species including Mountain Pansy, Orchids and Yellow Rattle.
The pastures support breeding Curlew, Lapwing and Snipe and over the farm, Hen Harrier, Buzzard and Red Kites are regularly seen. Ray and Sue are in the process of setting up a diversification project, with planning permission in for a camping pod.
The Tees Swale project funding and staff have been supportive in the development of the farm.
